King Crab

King CrabKing crab, Paralithodes camtschaticus, caught deep in the Arctic Circle, as seen on ‘The Deadliest Catch’. We can deliver both raw/frozen or cooked/frozen clusters. The clusters typically comprise 3 legs and a claw attached by the ‘shoulder’ joint; the contents of the head (carapace) are not edible. With a leg span of upto 6 ft and weighing up to 10kg these are truly amazing crabs. The meat is delicious, sweet and jucy with sililarities to both Brown Crab and Lobster in flavour. However the shell is not as hard as that of brown crab or lobster and can be cut with kitchen or poultry sissors and peeled back to reveal the meat inside. The legs are full of meat, containing no annoying shards of shell and the meat yield is excellent compared to other crab.

King Crab leg and claw clusters make a unique and striking center piece at any event and can be ordered by the cluster (1.3-1.7kg each)

King CrabThe King Crabs natural habitat is the Bering Sea, off the coast of Alaska, though they are also found off the coasts of Japan, Korea, Eastern Russia and Canada. But having been introduced into the Barents Sea, off the coast of Murmansk in Northern Russia, in the 1960’s the crab has rapidly spead West to Northern Norway.
Due to their size and abundance they are fierce predators devouring everything on the seafloor to the extent that fishing quotas have been removed in certain areas in an effort to curb their progress! Our crab is caught during the continual darkness of the 24hr Polar Nights in sub zero conditions and often big seas off the Finnmark region of Northern Norway deep in the Arctic Circle. The fishermen risking their lives for this new found catch.
